Glamorous and subtly exotic interior design for the new Aalto restaurant on the south coast of Malta

The Gruppo 5 team is proud to present its latest contract furnishing project, created through the collaboration between Maltese architect Rebecca Zammit and our designers Lorenzo Faccin and Daniele Andreasi. It is a prestigious two-story restaurant, Aalto—set to open in the coming days—located on the south coast of Malta, specifically in the iconic and charming area of Blue Grotto. Its privileged position offers breathtaking views over the clear Mediterranean waters. The project brings together a perfect balance of modern and classic design, evoking a glamorous and subtly exotic atmosphere.
The building—tall, narrow, and flanked by adjoining structures—draws natural light solely from the large front windows and a spacious skylight on the ground floor. This feature was leveraged to recreate a persuasive and luxurious vibe through the use of discreet and enveloping lighting.

Upon entering the restaurant, the first element that catches the eye is the distinctive use of Verde Alpi marble, which, beyond creating an elegant vertical slat effect on the bar counter, was also utilized as a decorative element on walls and ceiling. The slatted pattern reappears on the upper floor, where a Canaletto walnut wood paneling flows across walls and ceiling, adding texture and three-dimensionality. Marble and wood meet again in the dining and coffee tables, expressing a minimalist and refined design. To complete the ensemble, seating with a comfortable and sophisticated design was selected, standing out for its delicate woven rope detailing—a tribute to the local maritime heritage. On the upper floor, a small terrace framed by a charming wisteria pergola offers a dip into nature, ensuring seamless visual continuity between indoors and outdoors. A balanced use of materials, a warm sand-toned color palette, essential table settings, and minimalist accessories complete the atmosphere.

An exciting project approached with the goal of creating a refined and alluring design, delivering an unforgettable experience that exceeds expectations.
